Which Vitamin C Antioxidant Is Right For You?

We are celebrating Vitamin C Month so we wanted to take a moment to talk about why Vitamin C plays such an important part in your skincare regime and which SkinCeuticals products we would recommend adding to your daily routine.

Discover the top 7 incredible benefits of Vitamin C:

Collagen Production: Vitamin C is essential for the synthesis of collagen, a protein that helps maintain skin’s firmness and elasticity. Collagen production tends to decline with age, leading to wrinkles and sagging skin. By promoting collagen synthesis, vitamin C helps improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Antioxidant Protection: Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that helps protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals, which are molecules that can lead to premature ageing and skin damage. By neutralising free radicals, vitamin C helps prevent oxidative stress and keeps the skin looking youthful.

Brightening Effect: Vitamin C has skin-brightening properties due to its ability to inhibit melanin production. Melanin is the pigment responsible for giving skin its colour, and overproduction can lead to hyperpigmentation, such as dark spots and uneven skin tone. Vitamin C can help fade existing dark spots and prevent the formation of new ones, resulting in a more even complexion.

Sun Protection: While not a substitute for sunscreen, vitamin C can help protect the skin from sun damage. It acts as a secondary defense mechanism against UV radiation by neutralising free radicals generated by sun exposure. Additionally, some research suggests that vitamin C may enhance the effectiveness of sunscreen when used together.

Wound Healing: Vitamin C plays a crucial role in the skin’s natural wound-healing process. It helps promote the production of collagen, which is essential for repairing damaged skin tissue. By accelerating the healing process, vitamin C can improve the skin’s overall appearance and reduce the risk of scarring.

Anti-inflammatory Properties: Vitamin C has mild anti-inflammatory properties, which can help calm irritated or inflamed skin. It may be beneficial for conditions like acne, rosacea, and eczema by reducing redness and inflammation.

Hydration and Moisture Retention: Vitamin C helps strengthen the skin’s barrier function, allowing it to better retain moisture. This can result in smoother, more hydrated skin with improved texture and suppleness.

Based on your skin concerns, you will receive a treatment plan to help you achieve the best results possible for your skin.

We Asked Our Doctors: What’s The Difference Between Lip Filler and a Lip Flip?

In recent years, the quest for fuller lips has become a trend in aesthetic enhancements. Whether you’re considering overlining your lips with lip liners or contemplating about injections, it’s important to understand the difference between different lip treatments and the pros and cons of each one. Keep reading to learn more about the lip treatments we offer at Cavendish Clinic to help you make an informed decision and leaving you with a fuller pout.

Which lip treatments are available at Cavendish Clinic?

At Cavendish Clinic, we offer both the Lip Filler and Lip Flip treatment.

Lip Fillers

Lip Filler is an effective way to add volume and definition to the lips, with instant results. At Cavendish Clinic, our Aesthetic Doctors work with your individual features to provide subtle, natural-looking lip augmentation. We use Juvederm Ultra, Volite, Volift, Voluma & Volbella in all our Fillers.

Lip Flips

A Lip Flip is a cosmetic procedure that involves using anti-wrinkle injections (commonly known as Botox) into the muscles around the lips. Unlike lip fillers, which add volume to the lips, a Lip Flip works by relaxing the muscles around the lips, causing them to slightly roll outward. This can create the appearance of fuller upper lips and a more defined lip line without adding volume.

What’s the difference between Lip Fillers and Lip Flips?

Our Aesthetic Doctor, Dr Rosh, explains the fundamental disparity between a Lip Flip and Lip Filler. A Lip Flip involves using neuromodulators such as anti-wrinkle injections to inject into the orbicular muscle of the top lip. This relaxes the muscle, causing the top lip to flip outward, creating the illusion of increased fullness. On the other hand, Lip Fillers entail injecting hyaluronic acid dermal fillers to augment lip volume genuinely.

Lip-filler-before-and-after

How do you decide between the two?

The decision between a Lip Flip and Lip Filler depends on individual preferences and their desired outcomes. Dr Rosh recommends Lip Fillers for those seeking more volume and a voluptuous appearance. Alternatively, a Lip Flip is an excellent option for individuals aiming to maintain their natural volume whilst adding subtle projection and enhancement. Combining both treatments can offer a balanced and customised result.

How much does each treatment cost?

Lip Flips are generally more affordable than Lip Fillers, involving fewer units of neuromodulators per session. At Cavendish Clinic, the Lip Flip treatment costs £150. On the other hand, prices for Lip Fillers start from £295.

Precautions and Aftercare

At Cavendish Clinic, we advise our patients to expect mild swelling, bruising, pain, and tenderness with Lip Fillers, lasting from days to weeks. Lip Flips are a faster and less painful procedure and may have little to no downtime, with results visible within one to two weeks. It is recommended to avoid alcohol, blood thinners, and fish oil before appointments to minimise the risk of bruising and refraining from manipulating the injected areas post-treatment.

Next Steps

Choosing between the two treatments depends on the individual goals and their preferences. We emphasise personalised consultations to guide individuals towards the most suitable solution. Consulting with a qualified professional is crucial to understanding each treatment and achieving the desired outcome. With Cavendish Clinic’s expertise, you can confidently make decisions that align with your vision of the perfect pout, ensuring a safe and satisfying experience on your aesthetic enhancement journey.

Steven’s BodyTiteâ„¢ Journey

Seeking a solution to address his abdominal concerns, Steven began his transformative journey with Dr. Matt James. Let’s delve into Steven’s story and explore the revolutionary BodyTiteâ„¢ treatment that has left him with a more defined stomach and feeling confident about his body.

Steven’s Testimonial

Steven’s desire to lose fat from his lower stomach, often known as the dreaded ‘pouch,’ led him to Cavendish Clinic. Steven's-BodyTiteâ„¢-Journey

What is BodyTiteâ„¢?

BodyTiteâ„¢ is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that utilises radiofrequency (RF) technology to tighten and contour the skin. This treatment is often employed for body sculpting, targeting areas with excess fat and loose skin. The RF energy is applied through a specialised handpiece, which simultaneously melts fat and tightens the surrounding skin. BodyTiteâ„¢ is commonly used for enhancing body contours, reducing stubborn fat deposits, and improving skin laxity without the need for more extensive surgery.

What are the benefits of BodyTiteâ„¢?

  • Dual Action: Unlike conventional methods, BodyTiteâ„¢ addresses both fat removal and skin tightening simultaneously, providing comprehensive results in a single treatment.
  • Minimally Invasive: BodyTiteâ„¢ is a minimally invasive procedure, meaning it requires smaller incisions compared to traditional surgeries, leading to less scarring and a quicker recovery.
  • Immediate and Progressive Results: Witness noticeable improvements after the treatment, with continued enhancement over the following three months as your body naturally responds to the procedure.
  • Body Contouring: The treatment is particularly useful for body sculpting, helping to enhance and define the natural contours of the body.
  • Precision: BodyTiteâ„¢ allows for precise targeting of specific areas, providing a customised approach to address individual concerns.
  • Less Downtime: Compared to more invasive surgical procedures, BodyTiteâ„¢ generally involves a shorter recovery period, allowing individuals to return to their normal activities sooner.
  • Reduced Risk of Complications: As a minimally invasive procedure, BodyTiteâ„¢ is associated with a lower risk of complications compared to more extensive surgeries.
  • Tailored Treatment Plans: Each BodyTiteâ„¢ journey begins with a personalised consultation, ensuring that the treatment plan aligns with individual goals and aspirations.

10 Top Tips to Maximise Your Laser Hair Removal Results

Are you contemplating laser hair removal or currently on your pathway to smoother skin? Whether you’re a frequent client for Laser Hair Removal or exploring your initial session at Cavendish Clinic, follow these tips to help achieve optimal results. Read on to learn more and achieve smoother hair-free skin.

1. Ensure you are a suitable candidate for Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is generally suitable for individuals who want to reduce or eliminate unwanted hair on various body parts. It is a popular cosmetic procedure that effectively targets and removes hair from specific areas. However, its suitability can depend on factors such as hair and skin colour.

Laser hair removal works best for individuals with light skin and dark hair because the laser targets the pigment (melanin) in the hair follicles. The contrast between light skin and dark hair allows the laser to heat and destroy the hair follicles, inhibiting future hair growth more effectively.

People with darker skin tones may also benefit from laser hair removal, but it is important to use a laser specifically designed for darker skin to avoid potential side effects like pigmentation changes or burns.

It’s essential to consult with a qualified and experienced practitioner to determine if laser hair removal is suitable for your specific skin and hair type. Additionally, individuals with certain medical conditions, such as hormonal imbalances or certain medications, may not be ideal candidates for this procedure. Pregnant women are generally advised to avoid laser hair removal during pregnancy.

2. Strategically scheduling treatment sessions

Multiple sessions are usually required for effective hair reduction. The number of sessions depends on the hair’s colour, thickness, and the treated area. Typically, it takes between 8 and 12 sessions spaced four weeks apart each time. It can be a long process, but the results are worth it and last.

3. Avoid waxing, threading, and tweezing

Before treatment, we recommend avoiding waxing, threading, or tweezing. Waxing should be avoided before laser hair removal because the laser targets the pigment (melanin) in the hair follicles. Waxing removes the entire hair shaft, including the hair follicle, from the root. Without the hair follicle as a target, the laser has nothing to focus on during the treatment. As a result, the effectiveness of the laser hair removal procedure is compromised.

For laser hair removal to be most effective, the hair follicle needs to be present. The laser energy is absorbed by the melanin in the hair, and this energy is then converted into heat, damaging the hair follicle, and inhibiting future hair growth. If the follicle is removed through waxing, the laser treatment may not be as successful because there is no target for the laser to act upon.

4. Shave before treatment

To prepare for laser hair removal, it is recommended to shave the treatment area a day or two before the laser hair removal session. This allows the laser to target the hair follicles more effectively without singeing the surface hair.

5. Comfortable Clothing

We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that is loose-fitting so it is easily adjustable and can facilitate the process for both you and the practitioner. It allows them to easily reach the treatment area without causing any unnecessary discomfort.

If you’re getting laser hair removal on your legs, consider wearing shorts or a skirt. For underarm or bikini area treatments, choose a top or bottoms that can be easily adjusted or removed. Some clinics may provide disposable garments or drapes to ensure your comfort and modesty during the procedure.

Additionally, it’s advisable to wear clothing made of breathable fabrics to help prevent irritation or overheating during and after the laser hair removal session. If you have any concerns about what to wear or how to prepare for your specific treatment, it’s always a good idea to check with the clinic or practitioner in advance. They can provide guidance based on the specific area being treated and their facility’s protocols.

6. Mindful Skincare

We advise clients to steer clear of self-tanning lotions, sprays, or creams. These products can irritate the skin and potentially interfere with the laser treatment’s effectiveness.

Refrain from using skincare products containing harsh chemicals, strong acids, or abrasive particles. This includes products with glycolic acid, retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, and salicylic acid, as they can be too harsh on the treated skin.

Fragranced lotions, creams, and soaps can irritate the treated area. Opt for fragrance-free or hypoallergenic products during the healing process. Avoid using scrubs or exfoliating products on the treated area for at least a week after laser hair removal. These products can be abrasive and may irritate the sensitive skin.

7. Limit sun exposure before and after treatment

Before and after treatment, we recommend avoiding sun exposure for at least a few weeks before your treatment. Sun exposure can make your skin more sensitive and increase the risk of side effects, such as pigmentation changes. Make sure to use a sunscreen with high SPF to help protect the skin in the sunlight. We suggest one of our bestselling SPFs, SkinCeuticals Advanced Brightening UV Defense Sunscreen.

8. Avoid hot showers and saunas

For a day or two after the treatment, avoid hot showers, saunas, and activities that may cause excessive sweating. This helps prevent irritation and discomfort in the treated area.

9. Moisturise and follow post-care instructions

After laser hair removal, it’s important to take care of your skin to promote healing and minimize the risk of complications. We recommend keeping your skin well-moisturised with a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser. Consider SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2, which helps restore the skin’s external barrier and supports natural self-repair. Speed up healing by adding a serum with vitamin E, vitamin C, antioxidants and ferulic acid. SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic has been tested and deemed suitable for use post-laser.

Follow any post-care instructions provided by your practitioner. This can help soothe the skin and promote optimal healing.

10. Choose a reputable clinic or practitioner

At Cavendish Clinic, we work with expert technicians across our clinics who will talk through what you’re looking for and give you a tailored plan. Get in touch if you have any further questions about Laser Hair Removal or to book an appointment today.
